Simple Excel Calculation Example

Cells in spreadsheets contain values or formulas. Here's an Excel formula example; multiply Rate by Hours to calculate Gross Pay. The SUM function is used to add up Total Gross Pay.

How to use Excel formula

- Cells are referred to by column and row (e.g. A1)
- Formulas always begin with an equals (=) symbol
- Multiply with asterix (*), Divide with forward slash (\) 
Use SUM to tot up a range of cells (e.g. D2 to D4)
